Abstract:
According  to  the  new  radiation  protection  regulations  in  Norway  which  were  put  into  force  on  January  1.st  2004,  companies  performing  industrial  radiography  will  require  an  authorization  from  the  Norwegian  radiation  protection  authority  (NRPA).
By  the  end  of  2004,  80  companies  had  applied  for  and  had  received  an  authorization  for  industrial  radiography.  The  company  autorizations  contain  a  specific  requirement  that  site  radiography  must  be  performed  with  2  operators,  both  holding  a  radiation  protection  certificate  issued  by  an  independent  accreditated  certification  body.  As  a  basis  for  the  radiation  protection  certification,  a  “Normative  document”  describing  the  requirements  for  radiation  protection  training  and  competence  of  industrial  radiography  operators  has  been  prepared  in  Cooperation  between  the  Norwegian  radiation  protection  authoritiy  and  the  Norwegian  society  for  non-destructive  testing.  In  this  way  the  surveillence  of  the  radiation  protection  qualifications  of  operators  is  in  principle  performed    by  the  national  accreditation  bodies  on  the  basis  of  the  normative  document,  and  not  by  the  radiation  protection  authorities.
