Participants addressed include Qualified Experts QE and persons responsible for radiological protection in the fields of:
- application of radiation in industry, research, and science
- the nuclear fuel cycle (nuclear installations, fuel fabrication, reactors, and decommissioning)
- emergency preparedness and response
and all such persons working in

The duration of the training courses varies between 2.5 days for Radiation Protection Commissioners for Maintenance Workers to 5 weeks for Radiation Protection Commissioners in Nuclear Power Plants.
Training goals cover: conveyance of knowledge, acquisition of requisite competence, and maintaining requisite competence in accordance with the German Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV) 2001 and its guidelines for implementation.
As a rule, the successful attendance of training courses performed in accordance with the requirements of StrlSchV and its pertaining guidelines is to be proved by passing a final written test. Successful course attendance is documented in an officially acknowledged certificate which forms the basis for being licensed.
Annually, more than 2500 participants in approximately 150 training events are trained in the field of radiation protection.
Training is being performed as classroom lectures, seminars, workshops, demonstrations, practical exercises, and laboratory sessions.
