Description |

Illicit trafficking of nuclear materials has become a serious problem within the open boarders of Europe. The increase in terrorist’s activities is also matter of concern, for everyone undergoing a special training in radiation protection.
After 9/11 it is obvious that training and education in this topic is more important than ever before.
In behalf of the potential collaboration with international organisations, the Radiation Protection Academy at ARC Seibersdorf research developed, organised and run a lot of international training courses on preventing smuggling of nuclear materials in the last five years.
Two kinds of training courses were held:
- Awareness courses for leaders in costumes and police organisations
- Training courses for police and costumes officers situated at international boarders
The awareness courses were held at the area of the Austrian Research Centres, the training courses were held in Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and Malta.
The Radiation Protection Academy in Seibersdorf has shown in this project the enormous importance of international cooperation in radiation protection training.
