Abstract:
One procedure followed to get maximised assistance to one Course ( 45 hours) on Radiation Protection in one Medical School is presented. First of all one questionnaire was sent to medical students in the Faculty of Medicine at University of La Laguna to find out some possible motivations to increase the interest on Radiation Protection. As the main answer was practical utility in the future, the work of changing the program (theoretical and practical) to harmonise it to official program to get the title of “Director of X-Ray medical installations”, was made. Furthermore, the Course was presented to the Regulatory Organism in Spain (CSN) in order to obtain the acknowledge of it and thus, the students can ask for that title when their Medical Studies were finished (2 or 3 year later). The main result of that work was the dramatic change of percentage of medical students in that Faculty assistants to the Course related with previous 5 years: from 15% average before to 70% after. One way to encourage the assistance of a course on radiation protection in medical schools can be to harmonise one part of the Course with an official course given to medical doctors to use X-ray with diagnostic purposes. |
