Annual Activity Intake, Limit Value

The activity of a radionuclide or a nuclide mixture
which, after absorption in the body results in a committed dose for
an organ, a tissue or the whole body. The committed dose corresponds
to the annual limit value of the dose for the respective organ or tissue
or the limit value of the effective dose. According to the Radiological
Protection Ordinance, for example, the limit value of the annual activity
intake of caesium-137 amounts to 4·106 Bq (when ingested)
and to 6·106 Bq (when inhaled) for individuals with
occupational exposure to radiation.
