Reference unit for the energetic evaluation of various
energy carriers. 1 kg coal equivalent corresponds to a value specified
as 7,000 kilocalories (7,000 kcal ~ 29.3 MJ ~ 8.141 kWh) and thus approximately
the calorific value of hard coal which, depending on the type, amounts
to between 29.3 MJ/kg (gas-flame coal) and 33.5 MJ/kg (anthracite).
