In 2014, a total of 97.1 bn kWh were converted from nuclear energy into electrical energy in German nuclear power plants, corresponding to a share of 15,8 % of the electricity supply in Germany. Ranking highest was the Nuclear Power Plant Emsland with 11,5 bn kWh. In Germany, electricity has been generated from nuclear power since 1961.
