Ordinance on the Protection against Damage and Injuries
Caused by Ionizing Radiation (Strahlenschutzverordnung - StrlSchV) dated
20th July 2001, last amendment 29th August 2008.
Together with the X-ray Ordinance, the Radiological Protection Ordinance
is intended to ensure that the aim of the Atomic Energy Act is achieved:
to protect life, health and property against the hazards of nuclear
energy and the harmful effect of ionizing radiation. The Radiological
Protection Ordinance is the code of conduct for achievement of the principle
of radiation protection:
-
any unnecessary radiation exposure or contamination of persons,
property or the environment is to be avoided,
-
any radiation exposure or contamination of persons,
property or the environment is to be kept as low as possible, even
below the stipulated limit values, considering the state of the
art and science as well as all circumstances of the individual case.
The Radiological Protection Ordinance of 2001 adopts
the Euratom basic standards for radiation protection modified as a result
of the new recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological
Protection ICRP Publication 60.
