Career Opportunities

ENS provides information on career opportunities of ENS Corporate Members

After analysing different websites and career offers of nuclear companies, ENS developed three definitions:

  1. An apprenticeship program combines on-the-job training with academic instruction for those entering the workforce. Also called dual-training programs because of the combined occupational and in-class components, apprenticeships help individuals put their academic skills to practical use in various careers.

Whereas internships are often short-term, rarely lasting more than a year, apprenticeships can last as many as four or five years. Apprenticeships also differ from internships in that most apprentices are paid, with the salary increasing as the apprentice completes parts of the program.

  1. Internship – is offered to students who would like to gain in additional to their studies initial work experience in a certain field. The duration of internship does normally not exceed 3 months during study breaks and is mostly unpaid. With some studies, e.g. medicine, law, economics an internship is very often required by universities to complete the degree. There are some exceptions like Westinghouse, who offer paid internships that can last from one to three years.

  2. Traineeship - is a training period at the company and is usually offered to graduates. Trainees are new employees who receive training for how to do the specific job. The duration of traineeships is max. 1, 5 year and starts at a reduced salary.
