KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT ASSIST VISITS TO NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS IN MEMBER STATES
Z. Pasztory (IAEA)

Background

Over the past years, the nuclear community has recognized the importance of nuclear knowledge for all nuclear activities. Efforts are under way to preserve knowledge, to enhance knowledge sharing and access, to transfer knowledge to future generations and to build new knowledge for capacity building and to support innovations. These efforts are in the light of the need to sustain a knowledge base for existing nuclear programmes and to prepare for possible future growth.

Since 2002, the IAEA has addressed nuclear knowledge management, and the IAEA’s General Conference has continuously reiterated a resolution on Nuclear Knowledge, calling for action by both the IAEA and Member States. In response, the IAEA has organized the first major international conference on managing nuclear knowledge in 2004 and a second in June 2007. Asian Nuclear Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT) has facilitated sustainable education and training, and a number of NKM Assist Visits have provided assistance and services in nuclear knowledge management to nuclear installations. The IAEA has also issued a number of guidance publications on that matter.

Objective

The objectives of the IAEA Side Event are to present relevant IAEA publications and results from the activities, to provide a forum for special lectures on managing nuclear knowledge and related subjects and to discuss best practices in selected areas with participants. It will consist of the IAEA Session on Nuclear Knowledge Management, Demonstration of websites, and Exhibition of products and services.
