RRFM 2015: Post-conference Technical Tours
Delegates of the European Research Reactor Conference (RRFM) can choose between two Technical Tours:
Technical Visit 1: Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant
Cernavoda NPP is the only CANDU type NPP in Europe. It uses natural uranium and heavy water as moderator and cooling agent.
The electricity annually generated by the Cernavoda NPP Units 1 and 2 represents approximately 20% of the overall electricity production of Romania.
In 2013, the CANDU-type Cernavoda NPP Units 1 and 2 produced 11.618.951 MWh out of which it delivered 10.695.758 MWh in the National Power Grid, at a high capacity factor of 99,4% for Unit 1 and 89,15% for Unit 2.
Departure from the Conference Hotel: 8.00
Return at the Conference Hotel: 15.30
All available places for the Technical Visit 1 have been taken. It is currently not possible anymore to register for Technical Visit 1.
Technical Visit 2: Triga Reactor at the ICN Pitesti
The Reactor Department has nationwide unique facilities that allow testing and irradiation testing of nuclear fuel and structural materials in nuclear power plants. It includes a TRIGA SSR - 14 MW REACTOR and a TRIGA ACPR – REACTOR which can work up to 20.000 MW pulse; it has a single central irradiation cannel for fuel and structural materials irradiations under pulsed modes.
Departure from the Conference Hotel: 9.00
Return at the Conference Hotel: approx. 16.00
