Technical Tours

On Thursday 15 March RRFM 2018 delegates will have the possibility to participate in three technical tours:

Technical Tour I: FRM II

FRM II is the most modern German research reactor being operated since 2005 by the Technical University of Munich on its campus in Garching, north of Munich. Its most important design feature is a single, very compact fuel assembly providing a thermal power of 20 MW. The operational schedule is based on up to 4 cycles of 60 days in a row per year. The unperturbed thermal neutron flux density is 8E14 cm-2s-1. The reactor core is heavy water moderated and light water cooled. FRM II offers more than 30 scientific instruments for beam tube research to an international user community. In addition it is used for technical and medical applications like isotope production and Si doping.
