PIME 2017 Conference Dinner

The PIME Conference dinner will take place on Monday 15 March 2017 in the Abbey of our Lady in Middelburg. The abbey was established around 1100 by monks from Flanders. The cloisters acquired great wealth and the abbot became the most powerful and influential person in Zeeland. After the conquest of the city by the Prince of Orange in 1574 the monks were forced to leave. The comlpex with the exception of the churches were taken over by the State of Zeeland as its seat of goverment and still functions as such.

A prominent feature of the town's profile is the abbey church tower as "Lange Jan" ("Tall John") on the south side of the Choir church. The lower part of the Tower dates from the fourteenth century.

The center of the holy life of the Norbertine monks were the passageways ‘De Kloostergangen’. The herb garden of ‘De Kloostergangen’ gave them their food and medicines. In 2017 it will be the turn of PIME delegates to enjoy dinner in those centuries old cloister passageways.
