Venue
PIME 2017 will take place at COVRA (Centrale Organisatie Voor Radioactief Afval), the Dutch radioactive waste retrieval company.
The conference will be hosted at its treatment and storage facility in the province of Zeeland.
When COVRA built its facilities for high level waste storage, the so-called HABOG facility, the idea was born to integrate the building into an artistical concept, called ‘Metamorphosis’: a concept allowing to show transformations and relations between art and the waste management concept. More
COVRA now started the construction of a storage building for depleted uranium. The building will not only be a technical building engineered for safe storage, but also a communication instrument and a work of art. It is designed by William Verstraeten, who also designed HABOG. The building will be painted in a bright blue color, Uranus blue, and become the largest sun dial in Europe. This refers to the fact that time renders radioactivity harmless.
PIME 2017 will be the occasion to celebrate the opening of the building and live the unique experience of attending the conference at this exceptional site.
