  1. Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma physics (IPP)

    PhD Programme

PhD thesis work at IPP is offered in conjunction with various universities, particularly Augsburg, Bayreuth, Berlin (TU), Greifswald, Munich (LMU, TU), Stuttgart, Tübingen, and Ulm. Scientific work is conducted at IPP in Garching or Greifswald and is supervised by IPP staff. At universities PhD students are represented by lecturers or professors who are affiliated to or work closely with IPP.

  1. The Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin - HZB

The HZB was founded by two of Berlin's largest research centres. As member of the Helmholtz-Association, HZB is financed by federal gouvernment (90%) and city state Berlin (10%).  The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) operates two scientific large scale facilities for investigating the structure and function of matter: the research reactor BER II for experiments with neutrons and the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II, producing ultrabright photon beams ranging from Terahertz to hard X-rays. Due to this, HZB is one of the few centres world-wide to offer the whole range of instruments for neutron and synchrotron radiation within one laboratory structure.

    The International Summer Student Programme

    Hands-on research experience for undergraduates

The HZB offers the eight-week summer student programme. Students from all over the world get the chance to work on their own research project in close cooperation with scientists. The programme affords students the rare opportunity to participate in the everyday work of our research teams at their laboratories or experimental areas located at the HZB-campuses in Berlin-Wannsee or Berlin-Adlershof. A series of seminars introduces the students into selected research topics investigated at the HZB. The programme is accomplished by site visits at the neutron source BER II, the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II, and laboratories for solar energy research.
