The Agency for Radwaste Management is was established in February 1991 by the Slovenian Government. ARAO was first organized as public agency and in 1996 it's status was changed to public utility institution. With this change ARAO took over new tasks and competences:

operation of Central Storage Facility in Brinje

collection and transport of radioactive waste from small producers

remediation processes for buildings containing radioactive waste or being contaminated
