Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company SKB
Nuclear power companies in Sweden jointly established the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB) in the 1970s. SKB’s assignment is to manage and dispose of all radioactive waste from Swedish nuclear power plants in such a way as to secure maximum safety for human beings and the environment. The assignment is so extensive that we see it as one of Sweden's biggest environmental-protection projects. There are three cornerstones of SKB’s research and development: natural science research, technology development and social science research.

Security and safety
Different types of training are required in order to be granted access to a Swedish nuclear power plant. This includes, among other things, basic training within Security and Safety and Clean Systems (FME – Foreign Material Exclusion). Training in Clean Systems is completed by all personnel with access to the controlled area. This training and the accompanying tests must be completed before arrival to the plant. Certification that the training is completed and passed is to be presented on arrival. The Security and Safety training and all accompanying tests are performed at OKG on arrival. The trainings are in English but they can also be held in Finnish and in German.
